Adventure du jour

How many times have we heard the motivational phrase, "every day you need to push yourself; if not, it's a wasted day"? I might tweak that phrase just a bit and say, "each day, invite yourself to try something you fear, and give yourself permission to get it not-quite-right." Clearly, much more easily said than done.

On a given day I walk nearly four miles. Today, just over nine miles. ("Sweet!" and "ouch" at the same time) Took a little self-guided tour of Desenzano del Garda, a darling town on the south shore of Italy's Lago di Garda. Basic language navigation improves daily, with plenty of errors and patchwork quilt of Italian-English phrases. The fearful perfectionist inside me wants to shy away from saying anything incorrectly in front of a native speaker, but my giddy inner-child who loves languages and wants to contribute usually wins out. The simple things in life, like communicating with another human being, give me such a thrill!
