MONIKA BEAL brings a passion for creativity and an intelligent, intuitive presence to her artistic communication. Her versatile ability spans the vocal genres from classical and operatic to contemporary and choral repertoire, in addition to writing and visual arts.

Recent performances include the title role in Amelia Goes to the Ball with Independent Opera Company, Tales of Hoffmann as Antonia, and Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica with Repertory Opera Company, Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring with Chicago Summer Opera and as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel with Riverside Lyric Opera.

Committed to arts education, Monika performed the title role in The Diary of Anne Frank for Long Beach Opera’s Education Outreach program, giving multiple performances of the role for over 7,000 students and teachers during her residency which began in 2014. The following year, she was additionally engaged to sing the role of Lily in The Playground King. On the mainstage, she appeared in Long Beach Opera’s productions of The Death of Klinghoffer (Adams), Moscow, Cherry Town! (Shostakovich), Akhnaten (Glass), and Orpheus and Euridice (Ricky Ian Gordon).

In 2015, Monika was selected to participate in the Opera Viva! Verona program in Italy, where she appeared as a soloist in concerts throughout the summer. Other concert appearances include solo work with the new Los Angeles-based LA Choral Lab, as the soprano soloist with South Pasadena Community Chorus' 16th Annual Messiah Concert, and the NEXTET Ensemble for their 2016 performance of Augusta Read Thomas’ Of Being is a Bird.

Important to her work as an artist is the inclusion of fields outside of the traditional realm of creativity into musical performance. Monika’s desire to connect communities with one another has led her to seek out and create collaborative projects where intersections can be found between seemingly disparate groups. She also enjoys work between the arts disciplines.

Monika received her Bachelor of Music, Vocal Arts degree from the USC Thornton School of Music. She currently resides in Los Angeles.
